Telstra Bigpond Wireless Broadband
Telstra Bigpond has recently revamped their wireless broadband plans, and they now appeal to a much wider audience. As the other networks improve their nationwide coverage, Telstra Bigpond is now competing more on price than previously. The Telstra Next G network still has the greatest 3G coverage of Australia, with more than 99% of the population in a Next G area.
The lowest plan is $29.95 per month, but only includes 200MB of data. If you exceed your data limit, the excess usage rate is 25 cent per MB, which you do not want to pay! So if you want a low usage plan with the extra benefits of the Next G network, then this is a great plan – just don’t go over 200MB. For more data the 1GB plan is $59.95 per month.
For high data users, Telstra Bigpond has recently introduced some excellent options. They now offer “shaped” plans where if you exceed the 5GB or 10GB data allowance then your download speed is cut back to 64kbps. No nasty surprises from excess usage charges on your bill. The 5GB is $89.95 per month and the 10GB is $129.95 per month.
Current Promotions
The standard Telstra contract is 12 months and you make an outright purchase your USB Modem or PC Card for $299. Currently Telstra is offering half priced access for 12 months and a device rebate of $299 to cover the cost of the modem. You need to sign up on a 36 month plan to get this offer. If you take up this promotion you effectively get a free modem and plans starting at $14.97 for the first 12 months of the contract. You also need to have an eligible home phone or mobile phone plan with Telstra.
