Optus Launches HTC Dream – The Google Android Mobile Phone

by Luke on February 18, 2009

HTC Dream - Google Android Mobile PhoneOptus has now launched the highly anticipated HTC Dream – the first Google Android Mobile Phone launched outside the United States.

If you’re a user of the Google search engine, Gmail, You Tube, Google Maps or Google Calendar, then the HTC Dream helps you bring all of that functionality onto you mobile phone. There’s one-touch access to all of these Google services.

The phone has a 3.2 inch touch screen which is fast and responsive. You can customise the home screen to alert you of email, SMS or Instant Messaging. As the picture to the right shows, there is a full QWERTY keyboard, which is consistent with many of the popular PDA/mobile phone designs from HTC over recent years. The HTC Dream also has a microSD (SD 2.0 compatible) expansion slot up to 8GB.

The Internet capabilities of the HTC Dream are fantastic. It runs on the 2100MHz 3G network for fast data speeds. You can also seamlessly transition onto available Wi-Fi networks so your data usage comes from the Wi-Fi network and not your phone’s 3G network.

One of the most exciting developments of the HTC Dream is the Google Android operating platform. The touch screen functionality operates extremely well. The Android Market is the place to download new applications to your Google Android phone. All Android applications are open source and totally free. Head over to the Android Home Page if you’re interested in learning more.
