Vodafone has copped a fair bit of negative press in 2011 in relation to their network’s poor performance. In response they have launched some major marketing campaigns to reverse the perception that their network is troublesome. They’ve gone to lengths to show the world that their network is important and that they’re investing billions of dollars in improving it.

Other than just talk about it, they’ve also released the Vodafone Network Satisfaction Guarantee. Here are some of the important details:

If you sign up on a postpaid mobile phone plan or mobile broadband plan

And you’re not completely satisfied with your Vodafone network experience

Then call the Vodafone Customer Care team within 30 days of commencement of your contract

If they can’t resolve your issues to your satisfaction then you can cancel the contract

You won’t pay any cancellation fees, you’ll just pay for what you’ve used until the cancellation happens

Visit the Vodafone website to read the full terms and details of the Vodafone Network Satisfaction Guarantee.

If you do cancel your contract then you need to return your mobile phone handset or mobile broadband stick to Vodafone in a re-salable condition.

So is a Network Satisfaction Guarantee very useful for customers? Definitely! Vodafone has some great mobile phone deals out at the moment, but if you’re hesitant to sign up because of the reported network issues, then you could miss out on a great deal. If you do go ahead and sign up with Vodafone, you should do so with the full expectation that your sevice will work really well.

But if the network does let you down for any reason, then the Network Satisfaction Guarantee is on your side to either help you get the problem sorted out or in a worst case scenario can help you cancel the contract. But no one wants to go through that hassle if they can avoid it, so check the Vodafone website to make sure there is adequate mobile coverage in your area and make an informed choice!

Visit www.Vodafone.com.au for the latest “online only” mobile phone deals.

My wife’s Vodafone contract finished at the beginning of July. We hadn’t had any problem with them, and saw no reason to switch providers, so we decided to renew her $29 Cap and upgrade to a more modern phone. After much research I managed to convince her to move away from her beloved Nokias, and get an Android Smartphone – the Samsung Nexus S.

So, all we had to do now was to go to Vodafone’s website, log in, and see a big ‘Renew Contract Now’ button, right? Well, unfortunately it’s not that simple. I spent hours on Vodafone’s website trying to find a way to renew that contract. And in the end, it turned out to be impossible. The option is simply not there, and they come back with the message that we have to call them or go into a store to renew/upgrade a contract. How ridiculous!

Renewing a contract should be much easier than signing up a new customer on a contract

There is no number porting involved

They don’t need to verify identity or address or do a credit check

They don’t need to collect any information from you – they already have it all

We contacted online customer support, and got the same line about phoning or going into a store. They did mention though, that online contract renewal was a popular request, and they would pass it on. Glad to see at least someone is doing something about such a popular request. I just can’t understand how it wasn’t an obvious development, and why it hasn’t been possible at least for as long as it’s been possible to begin contracts over the internet.

Out of interest, I then went and checked other mobile phone networks. From what I could see, Optus, Virgin, Three and Telstra all had this same ridiculous policy – to renew or upgrade a contract you needed to call or visit a store. It was unbelievable! I encourage each of you to put in a request for this functionality at your mobile network, and see if we can get this system fixed!

If anyone knows why this is the state of play, please let me know. I’d also be glad to hear of any providers which do allow contract renewal online, or information about this improving at any of the previously mentions mobile networks.

As a side note, my wife loves her new phone!

You get 4GB of data for mobile internet usage, but to make this data allowance go even further, you also get infinite access to Facebook®, MySpace, Twitter, FourSquare & LinkedIn – just access them via their mobile websites. So it seems that for the sort of normal usage that most people have it’s unlimited and infinite! If you get the $100 plan with a Blackberry handset, then the data allowances work out slightly differently. Of course check on the Vodafone website before signing up for all the details.

What’s Included Each Month?

The $100 Infinite plan is similar to the other infinite plans in that in addition to all the unlimited calls, SMS and 4GB of data, you also have credit (to the value of the monthly access fee) to use for services like international voice and video calls and re-routed calls. The added advantage of the $100 plan is that you don’t have to use this credit for voicemail or calls to 13 and 18 numbers as they are included in the infinite call component! If you do use international calls, just make sure you keep an eye on your usage to keep within the $100 of credit.

What Mobile Phones Are Available?

There are lots of mobile phones available on the 12 and 24 month contract options. There are models by Apple, Nokia, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and Blackberry. Click here for a full list of phones on the $100 Infinite plan.
*Minimum cost over 12 months is $540 and over 24 months is $1,080. See full terms and conditions on the Vodafone website.

Infinite – But How Infinite?

On the $45 Infinite plan you get unlimited standard national calls as well as standard national and international SMS and MMS. You also get 1GB of data for mobile internet usage, but to make this data allowance go even further, you also get infinite access to Facebook®, MySpace, Twitter, FourSquare & LinkedIn – just access them via their mobile websites. So it seems that for the sort of normal usage that most people have it’s unlimited and infinite! Of course check on the Vodafone website before signing up for all the details.

What’s Included Each Month?

The $45 Infinite plan has a slightly different approach to previous unlimited plans – in addition to all the unlimited calls, SMS and 1GB of data, you also have $45 of credit to use for services like voicemail, calls to 13/18 numbers and re-routed calls. With previous unlimited mobile plans by Vodafone and other providers, some services like voicemail and calls to 13 and 18 numbers have been charged in excess to the monthly access fee. So this is a great improvement!

What Mobile Phones Are Available?

There are lots of mobile phones available on the 12 and 24 month contract options. There are models by Apple, Nokia, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and Blackberry. Click here for a full list of phones on the $45 Infinite plan. Some of the great deals seem to be:

Apple iPhone 4 16GB on a 24 month plan with handset repayments of $18 per month. $63 per month for a latest model iPhone with unlimited calls and SMS is a great deal! More info >>

Apple iPhone 4 32GB on a 24 month plan with handset repayments of $24 per month. $69 per month makes this an offer worth looking at if you want the 32GB iPhone version. More info >>

Any Specific Exclusions Of Note?

On the $45 Infinite plan, international calls are charged on top of your monthly access fee (the $65 Infinite plan lets you use your $65 credit for those) as well as services like premium SMS and MMS, Global Roaming, 123 Directory and more. When you go to sign up, make sure you read all the details about inclusions and exclusions.

Contract Lengths?

Fortunately Vodafone has given us some choice with this $45 unlimited plan – you can choose no contract (month-to-month), a 12 month contract or 24 month contract. On the 12 and 24 month contracts there are a range of phones available.

Vodafone looks like being the hot mobile provider in the lead up to Christmas with the release of their new “Infinite” mobile phone plans. Most mobile providers currently have some form of unlimited plan, but none of them do it for only $45 per month!!

The entry level Infinite plan is indeed only $45 per month – a significantly cheaper monthly access fee for an unlimited plan than any other provider in the Australian mobile industry. It will be interesting to see how Optus responds to this move and whether Telstra will change any of their plans in order to become more competitive.

Mobile Phones on the Infinite Plans

There are differing contract lengths to choose from (more details below), so mobile phones on the Vodafone website will give you a price for a 12 month contract and for a 24 month contract. There are some great phones available on these plans by:

Apple

Blackberry

LG

Nokia

Samsung

Sony Ericsson

HTC

Motorola

Some of the popular mobile phones currently are the Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S, Nokia N8, Nokia N97 Mini, Sony Ericsson X10 and the HTC Legend just to name a few.

Plan Details

Each plan comes with unlimited data usage on the most popular social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and LinkedIn. Just remember to access these sites through their mobile access sites eg m.facebook.com and m.myspace.com etc. The $45 Infinite plan comes with 1GB of data, the $65 Infinite plan comes with 2GB of data, the $85 plan comes with 3GB of data and the $100 Infinite plan comes with 4GB of data.

Also of note on the Vodafone Infinite plans, there is additional credit to cover some services which are sometimes not covered under an unlimited plan. For example – on the $45 infinite plan you get $45 of credit to cover voicemail and calls to 13 and 1800 numbers. On the $65 infinite plan you get $65 of credit to cover voicemail and 13/1300/1800 numbers as well as international voice and video calls. Click here (and scroll down) to see all the inclusions and exclusions on each plan.

Worth a notable mention is the fact that on the $100 infinite plan you get 13/1300/1800 calls and voicemail included in your unlimited call quota. You can use other services for your $100 of credit.

Contract Lengths

The Vodafone Infinite plans come with three options of contract lengths (fortunately Infinite is not one of them ) :

Month to month

12 months

24 months

It’s good to see the no long term contract option included in this mix as well as options for getting mobile phones on either 12 or 24 month contracts. Smartphones and iPhones have also been included as subsidised handsets with these Infinite plans. Click here to see more information about contract options.

Summary

The Vodafone Infinite plans definitely set the benchmark for mobile phone deals with unlimited calls and sms. Check through the plans and options to see which one suits your usage the best. If you want to get a new handset on one of these plans, don’t wait long before ordering it online as there is the potential for stock shortages in the lead up to Christmas on some popular phone models.
